How much Direct Instruction do you give in #APUSH? Days a week? Minutes a period? How do you deal with the amount of info presented? (via Jeff Silva-Brown)

While I don't do much direct instruction in regular World History (PBL rules there), I find that I do a lot more direct instruction in APUSH. I teach 10th graders and we do a lot of discussion (they are so much more than just one-way lectures!) to help them process. My most lecture-intensive unit has just under 50% direct instruction, but most are a bit less than that. All lectures are posted online (PPT format), so students can print off notes and/or take them in class, whichever they prefer. For those students that miss class, they are missing out on the discussion piece.
