I have been throwing around the idea of using interactive notebooks this year with my 7th and 8th graders. I have seen a couple blog posts about the use of the interactive notebooks and am intrigued. I was wondering if anyone uses these and exactly how they work. Do you have directions you give out? Rubric? Also how is the response from students and parents? Any help would be great. Thanks!

I have researched and borrowed ideas for an ISN and I have come up with this guide for students. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

My ISN Guide

Very thorough Kristi!  I think this is great because students need to know what is expected and this really eliminates some of the mystery surrounding what their teacher expects from their notebook.  I also think parents will appreciate this as well.

One suggestion, and it may be something that you were planning on doing anyway, is to keep a master notebook.  This helps students see a good model for what they complete in the notebook.  The other benefit of a master ISN is that it serves as a great professional reflection tool.  You can always look back and make notes as you prep for the next school year.

Great Job!

I wanted to give the SSchat folks a preview of some of the content we have created to support use of the Interactive Student Notebook.  We have filmed a series of short videos on various topics related to the ISN.  You can view them here: http://www.youtube.com/user/TeachTCI#grid/user/9142832F820CD0A5

We will also have two webinars in the month of September (7th and 21st) on ISNs.  These webinars are free.  You can sign up for them here: http://www.teachtci.com/webinars.html.
