Current events

Does anyone have any good activities/ rubrics for current event connections to U.S. History?  I'd like to have students do something weekly or biweekly, in groups, to address how current events mirror the events/ ideas we are studying in class. The class would be 10th grade, academic level, U.S. 1945 - present

I'm attaching a document that several people in my department have used or modified for current event assignments.  One member of my department actually gives the due dates for the entire year ahead of time and the types of topics he would like to see the students find an article about.  For example, October 15th- Politics/Elections, April 2nd- Environment.
