Jessie Jackson said… Hi Becky,
I just got hired on at Mound Fort Jr. High to teach 8th grade US History and Honors US History. Great to hear from someone else who is in Ogden! How do you like it there?
Becky, Thank you and I look forward to bouncing ideas off everyone at #sschat. Have you ever heard of Dickie Goodman. In the 1970s, he did several gag songs in which he acted as though he was interviewing characters from popular movies. Their answers were given in the form of the chorus from popular songs at the time. I am thinking about having my students do a similar project, only interviewing historical individuals. I am thinking this would be a fun way to get students excited about history. Here are a couple of URL addresses to the songs, in case you aren't following what I am talking about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Loqlk-KOJJU&feature=related / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDNlSpKLEEo&feature=related
I look forward to working with other history teachers

Steven Book said… Thanks for the kind welcome Becky!! I just recently started using Twitter in my classroom towards the end of my student teaching and discovered #sschat and have been thoroughly amazed by the innovative ways in which Social Studies teachers are utilizing different technologies everday in their classrooms! It has blown my mind and completely revolutionized how I am going to run my classroom (wherever that classroom may be...currently in the job search process). Again, thanks for the welcome and I look forward to further exploring this site and hopefully adding some helpful information for other teachers!
Thanks!
Steven
