Los Angeles County Office of Education/Mira Costa High School
My name is Michelle Sumner and I am a teacher of High School Deaf students. I teach Math and Social Sciences (US History, World History, Government and Economics). Being Deaf, I use technology in every aspect of my life and I make an attempt to demonstrate its use with my students to enhance instructional opportunities as well as build confidence and expose them to real life situations they will encounter upon leaving High School. Sharing our ideas with others helps us develop confidence. Listening teaches us to respect others. This is how I leave my mark on the world.
We're so glad to have you as a member of our Ning! And it looks like you can be a valuable asset from all of us to learn from. I love your description of how you empower your students too. What a great perspective. I also am very envious of where you work. I lived in SoCal for 7 years and still feel a loss for no June Gloom, the beautiful Jacaranda Trees and the salt ladden ocean breezes. Sigh! Anyway, welcome to the NING. Join a group, ask a question--we all love to collaborate! Also be sure to join us on Twitter Mondays at 7pm EST for our regular chat.
